  He is professor of semiotics at the University of Bologna, Dept. for Life Quality Studies, and at ISIA (Higher Institute for Industrial Art) in Faenza. His research interests include the semiotics and philosophy of Charles S. Peirce, qualitative analysis of consumption behaviour and urban spaces, and the semiotics of design. He has worked as a writer for press, radio and television. He also writes fiction and has published several novels and stories.
