Abstract

An international inquiry about picturebooks included in the exhibition The Extraordinary Library, 100 picturebooks between fashion and wonder selected by Bologna Children’s Books Fair for Pitti Immagine Bimbo 2017 shows the rich fan of possible relationships between childhood and clothing, illustration and fashion design. The research proposes an exploration of visual narratives devoted to history of fashion, fashion’s fictional and non fictional icons, together with book design, papermaking in an almost sartorial art. Fashion and picturebook languages meet in a selection that welcome books coming from all over the world. The dialogue between picturebook form and fashion art, history and wonder suggests new plots, textures, signs and shape, in almost infinite directions.
